Jerome was born and raised in Chicago and its south suburbs, where he met his wife Melba, and where their son Anfernee was born. The Hale family later moved to Arizona in 2010, the same year Jerome was diagnosed with a visual impairment from Stargardt Disease.
Jerome’s passion for helping others and his new diagnosis fueled him to earn his undergrad at Northern Arizona University and his Masters at Texas Tech University, with both degrees in special education. Jerome worked in the Chandler Unified School District for over a decade teaching students of all different backgrounds, abilities, and skill sets. This experience helped mold his unique abilities to not only teach individuals, but to connect with them on a personal level.
Jerome’s commitment to serve others and a belief in his calling to work directly with the blind and visually impaired community propelled him to start his own company: Hales Orientation & Mobility. As a member of this community, Jerome believes it's his mission to help others achieve and maintain independence and dignity in their daily lives. The bedrock principles of his training program are his coined, “the 3C approach”: Comfortable, Confident, and Correct. He believes to obtain any new skills; one must first be comfortable with their instructor. Once that relationship is established, clients can have the confidence to try new skills. The instructor then guides the individual in practicing and mastering these skills correctly.
In his spare time Jerome loves volunteering at his church, traveling, cooking, and all things San Francisco 49ers. He’s excited to meet you and help you achieve your goals.
